Why We Wear Racing Jackets

Racing jackets are definitely more than just a fashion statement, whatever the reason is that you've decided to buy one (or look into buying one). The most common reason you're going to see people wearing a racing jacket is that this style is perfect for showing you're a fan of the races, and usually a specific race, racer, or even car. Racing jackets have served far different purposes in other areas, however, and they certainly didn't start out as a way to show you were a fan of the races.

Originally, the use of racing jackets was a very simple, very logical choice. Remember that most of the cars that are in the races are going to be stripped of absolutely anything that isn't absolutely necessary, and that includes any heating or cooling systems. The thin racing jackets help with both heat and cooling by providing a bit of extra warmth prior to the vehicle heating up, then providing some insulation against the heat when the engine starts to get hot.

These racing jackets became a signature of most racers and started to become a more popular style as a result. Latching onto the idea, the sponsors of many of the racers had their own logos emblazoned onto the jackets that the racers wore. We all know the emblems of the big racers, and can recall the look of M&Ms or Coca-Cola being sported on these jackets.

It only makes sense that from there it would become a way to express loyalty, not to a brand, but to the racers themselves. But whatever the reason for buying a racing jacket, they are a stylish and versatile item for your wardrobe.
