Rallying is a form of motor competition on public or private roads. Rallying has been competed for over a hundred years and the types of cars range from brands from all over the globe.
The earliest type of rally car was the Ford V8 created by the Romanians for the Monte Carlo Rally. Soon car companies tailored cars specifically for rallyinig. The Audi became an interest in rallying with its turbocharged 2.1 litre five-cylinder engine. It was fitted with four-wheel drive and is now known as the Audi Quattro.
More modern day racers include the Ford Escort RS Cosworth. The cosworth is one of the most successful rally cars to come on the market. It contains a 227 php 2.0 litre engine. The Morris Mini is a British designed rally car made for light, compact, and superb handling. The Subaru Impreza has been competing in rallies for years and has come up with 46 rally trophies by the end of 2005. It has a turbocharged 2.0-litre flat-four engine unique compared to competitors powertrains. The Subaru produces 300 bph. The Lancer evolution is in its tenth generation. The Lancer was created to take on the winning Subaru. It has massively evolved its handling and performance but all have remained relatively common with the turbocharged 2.0 engine and four-wheel drive. First launched in 2003 the Evolution was powered with a 305bph FQ-200 engine and can hit a top speed of 175mph. The Toyota Celica was Toyota’s first full time four wheel drive rally car to compete in the World Rally Championship and was a league ahead of the Subaru and Mitsubishi contenders. Top of the road range Celica is powered with a 239bph turbocharged powertrain and can hit 62 miles per hour in under six seconds. The model sports a large scoop and spoiler with anti-lag valve and water injection. |
