Street Racing

Street racing is an adrenaline packed sport that draws many, especially of the college age, but there are also a few snags.  Primarily, especially after legislation that was put into place from 2004 to 2009, there are legal restrictions which make street racing illegal on virtually any road where you might want to do it.  There are good reasons for this.  Looking at statistics, you'll find quickly that the number of deaths that involved street racing made these laws necessary.  We're not talking about racers, either, who may be okay with the danger that they're putting themselves in.  We're primarily talking about pedestrians who weren't expecting a car to come barreling down the road, street racing, at ninety miles per hour in a thirty-five mile per hour zone.

The laws vary from location to location in the United States, but the often spontaneous and uncoordinated events are almost never legally sanctioned.  In some areas, there are penalties that are even more strict than normal traffic laws for participating – or even attending – street racing.  Whether that's drag racing or some other form of event, in California (for example) you can get a misdemeanor just for attending a drag race.
